I haven’t used the generator yet, I got it after the fires knocked out out power and we had to pack the fridge with ice. And I realized there is no oil in the box so I have to go get some. Sylvie is not cooperating for a generator pic.

Let me know how it goes. I’ve been meaning to do this. I have the same generation but have taking it with me when I camp for having to carry more fuel. I am putting twin propane tanks on the trailer so this would be an ideal solution.

I already have a dual-fuel gas/propane generator, but need to convert it to burn Natural gas. I wasn’t thrilled with the prices when I originally looked.
Where did you get the propane kit?

That’s pretty cool. What is the run time for propane vs gas? I see these all the time on the backs of boats, but I never hear them, which I think speaks volumes.

Says 30+ hours on a bbq tank , not sure what gasoline is but I did read everything is supposed to be better, quieter, less exhaust. I got the kit from Hutch Mountain .

They have conversions for everything, seems really well made. They aren’t cheap but I got a Honda for a reason, I have one in Hawaii and it never let me down. The kit wasn’t cheap but I got the generator for emergencies mostly and I don’t want junk.

Yeah that seems to be a gripe, people say my truck is diesel and I have propane etc.. so I have to bring a third fuel. I wanted to be able to just have the propane tank, they say it’s better for the generator and it’s quieter and less exhaust. I am in a condo. I have a Honda in Hawaii and it was pretty quiet, this is the newer one and it supposed to be even better. I forgot to put where I got it:

Actually mine does natural gas, I have some parts to do that if I wanted.

Those Honda generators are fantastic. My dad has a few for his business (he’s an electrical contractor). He’s got an older 2000 unit to take to remote job sites that is super quiet, so I can only imagine how much better a new one, with a propane kit is. And then he’s got a 5500 that is a beast. He’s had the thing like 20 some years and I think in all that time he’s changed the oil a few times and put a spark plug in it, once. It starts first pull, every time, and we’ve loaded the hell out of it, and it just keeps running.

Yeah I have the older one and a hookah diving rig in Hawaii and they have never gone wrong. The hookah is run on a boat out a sea too so that has to be the worst environment for one, everything is Hawaii corrodes, not many Datsuns survived! Honda is really the way to go with small engines, they have them dialed in and don’t change them much. I’ve had three of their cars and non have died, two I sold on to another life.

Yeah, the folks also have an 06 RSX-S with like 260k miles on it and that thing is a champ! Honda knows how to build an engine.

Very Nice! I have always loved both the Honda inverter generators and propane generators. With gas generators the carb is almost always mucked up when you need it too.

Yeah I have always used lots of additives in my old ones to keep them from gumming up. I put a healthy amount of seafoam in those.

I am also interested to see how this turns out. I bought a 5kW generator 5 or so years ago after week outage. Then I realized how much gas (and oil) was required to keep that sucker running (it was... a lot) and immediately realized I needed to get a kit to run it on natural gas.
Funny enough the power hasn’t gone out for more than 2 hours since I bought the generator.

Yeah I’m not sure we will get another nasty multi day outage but I’m never going to put gas in it so it should be fine sitting. Our big issue was the freezer/fridge so even if we only used it to turn those on for a few hours a day it would save us a big bother. It can run that and the computer/ TV etc.. It can’t hurt to have backup power, I got a big super heavy duty extension cord from work, they use good stuff on shows. Says 30+ hours on a normal bbq tank. I have a basecamp gas stove too if it came to that.
